Hello!
Welcome to the blogspot for team Malawi 2013!!
First I
just want to introduce myself. My name is Becky, a senior from Azusa Pacific
University. I will be going on this summer’s mission trip along with 19
other amazing people. We have all been brought together through the
Passion Center with the mission of serving God and His children. The
Passion Center is an organization located in Zomba, Malawi that cares for
orphans affected by the AIDS virus. They are able to help over 200
children, with that number increasing ever year! It is an incredible
organization with the goal to share God's love and hope to the children and
people or Zomba. Please check out their website at, http://passioncenterforchildren.org/
Last
summer I had the incredible opportunity to go to Zomba for the first time,
along with a team from APU. From the very first days we were in Zomba, I knew I
was forever changed. I fell in love with everything about Malawi from the
people that we met, to the culture we were immersed in. I saw God in new
ways and was able to share in community with His children from across the
globe. I left my heart in Malawi, where a part will forever remain. Through
God's amazing ways, I found myself planning to go back to Malawi this summer.
I cannot be more thankful and blessed with this opportunity once again!
I knew I would one day find myself back in Malawi, but I never thought it
would be just one year later! His plans are mysterious yet beautiful.
Our
God came down to the Earth and actually asked us what we wanted. He came from the ultimate power of love. To love is to serve, and God is love. As stated in 1 John 4:16b-19, "God is
love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them. This is how love is made complete among us so that will have
confidence on that Day of Judgment: In this world we are like Jesus. There is
no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fears, because fear has to do with
punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love. We love because He
first loved us." Love is symbolized as a circle. When we serve, there is a constant circle of
encouragement and love that continues between ourselves and the ones we
serve. I saw this completion of the
circle during my time in Malawi last summer.
This
summer there will be a team of 19 going to Malawi, continuing this circle of
love. We will be serving at the Passion Center through many ways including,
Bible studies, teaching seminars, English lessons, football ministries, and
much more! But foremost, bringing love to the children through a hug and
affection. Please keep us all in your
prayers over the next few months as we embark on our journey.
For the
first update of our trip… Pastor Eric, Lena, and Daniel left for Malawi this
afternoon! Lena and Daniel will be
moving to Zomba, and living at the Passion Center for over a year. I ask for your prayers over their travels and
time in Malawi. I thank God for their
willingness in answering His call to the Passion Center. They will be an
incredible blessing to the children, staff, and community.
The rest
of the team will be meeting Pastor Eric, Lena, and Daniel in just a couple of
weeks. For now, we are all busy packing
last minute items and saying our see-you-laters!
Let the
adventures begin in the place where joy is bursting at the seams!
